Chances are you and your family have been affected by cancer and chronic diseases, just like us. 

That’s why Wholesome was started in 2015 to become a go-to resource for evidence-based nutrition, tips, and recipes for the prevention and management of cancer and chronic disease.

Before becoming a registered dietitian, I always wondered how nutrition could play a role in preventing cancer, help during treatment, and prevent recurrence as our family came face-to-face with several cancer diagnoses. It is likely no surprise I learned that nutrition plays a powerful role in the development of cancer -- whether it's the prevention OR promotion of cancer.

While researching cancer nutrition to provide the best care for my patients, I stumbled upon the whole food, plant-based diet. And to be honest, it truly was just a stumble. But it was a stumble that would change not only patients’ lives, but both of our lives in ways we could never imagine. 

In 2013, Lauren was diagnosed with Lupus -- an autoimmune disease -- which affected her ability to walk without pain and perform several daily activities. After she was diagnosed, Alison dived into the research and encouraged me to switch to a plant-based diet. What we didn’t know is that the plant-based diet and other healthy lifestyle changes would put Lauren's disease into remission and decrease her pills from 16 to to 1. 

For Alison, the plant-based diet healed her severe acne, gave her more energy, but most importantly, gave her what she started to believe may never happen for her husband and her -- a beautiful daughter. 

Alison started Wholesome not just to share my favorite plant-based recipes with you, but to give you the tools to improve your life in ways you could never imagine.
